17世紀的英格蘭有關巫術的`迷信非常嚴重，許多男女老少因被指控為巫師而枉遭殺身之禍。這個小故事是詹妮特關於她一家人悲慘遭遇的敘述。詹妮特講這個故事的時間是1634年，當時她才9歲，卻因被指控為女巫而被關押在蘭開斯特城堡監獄裡。此前她的外祖母、母親和哥哥全被當作巫師處死。
