名詞按其所表示的事物的性質可以分為可數名詞（countable noun）和不可數名詞（uncountable noun），可數名詞有單數形式和複數形式。
1、名詞的數：
名詞的複數變化規則：
規則變化 一般情況 加-s 清子音後讀/s/，濁子音和母音後讀/z/；在/s/，/z/，//，/t/，/d/等後讀/iz/ book—books
以-s，-x，-ch，-sh等結尾加-es class—classes
以子音字母加-y結尾 去-y加-ies party—parties
以o結尾，且沒有生命 直接加s photo—photos
以o結尾，且有生命 加es tomato——tomatoes
以-f，-fe結尾 去-f，-fe加-ves knife——knives
不規則變化 同形 不變 sheep—sheep
變母音 不規則 man—men
其他 不規則 child—children
2、名詞所有格：（possessive case of nouns）
名詞所有格表示所屬關係。
名詞所有格的'構成方法
單數名詞以-s,es結尾加-' 讀作/iz/ the actress'film
不以-s,-es結尾加-'s 與名詞複數詞尾-s讀音相同
your father's birthday
複數名詞 不以-s,-es結尾 加-'s Children's Day
以-s,es結尾 加-' 不變 my parents' room
其他不能加‘s的名詞 ... of ... the door of the room
例如：
The teacher runs them through a drill — the days of the week, the weather and some counting.
